The municipal telco komro responds to unprecedented demand for high-speed broadband with a modernized infrastructure. Harmonic’s CableOS Platform simplified komro’s upgrade to DOCSIS 3.1 OFDMA and enabled virtualized.

When komro, the municipal telecommunications company in Rosenheim, Germany, was founded in 1998, its vision was to provide customers with an out standing quality of service. Today, komro offers a variety of broadband, telephony and TV entertainment services to more than 25,000 private and business customers. Embracing technology innovation and adapting to change have been fundamental to komro’s success.

Over the last 25 years, broadband requirements have evolved significantly and in recent years, the demand for bandwidth has increased worldwide. komro has explicitly seen a sharp increase in upstream traffic consumption as more people work remotely, ultra-connectivity is required across many facets of life and the use of virtual reality applications increases.

To tackle this critical issue, komro recently put a plan in motion to offer all its customers symmetric 10G broadband, in the
medium term. This article will explore komro’s path to deploying a truly virtualized, fully converged solution for fiber and HFC DOCSIS networks, resulting in increased agility, high-speed next-gen broadband services and an exceptional broadband experience for customers.
